Paddocks Press Newsletter. We make complex living simple

Hi Sir/Madam

In this week's newsletter we ask Graham Paddock some questions to get to know the Professor behind the law firm a little better.

Before we get into more personal questions, tell us about your professional background and achievements?
I spent my first 20 years of work at a Cape Town city centre law firm practicing as a property lawyer. This is where I developed an interest in community schemes. Juta & Co published my 'Sectional Title Handbook' in 1983. I started Graham Paddock & Associates in 1997 and started lecturing undergraduate and UCT postgraduate students on land law and community schemes. In 2004 the Paddocks/UCT online Sectional Titles Schemes Management started and I became the principal  consultant to the government for the STSM and CSOS Acts. At that stage my whole family was involved in the business and we changed the firm to Paddocks. I currently work with my daughter Jennifer (a lawyer qualified and experienced in South African and Australian schemes) consulting and teaching the law of community scheme management.

Ok, now for the personal stuff...

What are your hobbies?

I spend a lot of time on the computer, read, write and enjoy playing guitars.

What book are you currently reading?
The Mother Tongue.

What's your favourite movie?
Whatever Works.

What song are you playing on repeat these days?
I seldom play a song on repeat, but do listen to music quite a lot.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?
A warthog: I like their attitude.

Best holiday and why?
Road trip from Sydney to Byron Bay, New South Wales and spending time there.

Please provide an interesting photo of yourself and caption with a little backstory.
Reading to the grandchildren.

And the last question: please leave us with one of your favourite/memorable quotes?
A saying often attributed to Winston Churchill, but which may be apocryphal:
"If you're going through hell, keep going."
